Starpower National Talent Competition - Results
The By Grace Performance Team competed in the Starpower National Talent Competition at the Overland Park Convention Center, Overland Park, Kansas February 22nd through 24th. The team earned several trophies, medals and ribbons. Our musical theatre group performance to “Fabulous” (pictured above) received a 1st place trophy and Gold medal. A number in the “open” category featuring tap, jazz, & ballet received an Elite Gold Medal. Other performances in jazz, ballet, & tap each received Gold medal honors. A duet performed to “Teach Me How to Shimmy” by Amy D. and Mikaela M. received a Gold medal as well as another duet performed by Alyssa S. and Brodie G. to “Don Juan” also receiving a Gold medal. A trio to “Ready For A Miracle” performed by Riley B., Casey C. and Laurel D. also received a Gold medal. Our soloists captured the following awards: Elite Gold medals: Jessy C. and Riley B.; Gold medals: Allison P. (10th place high score overall in her division), Sandra H., Casey C., Tracy C. (1st place in adult division), Laurel D., Brodie G., and Alyssa S.; Elite Silver Medal: Mikaela M. In the Future Stars Division, Cassandra C. and Tanna P. each received Gold medals and 1st place trophies in their respective categories. The Performance Team will next travel to North Kansas City to compete in the Nexstar National Talent Competition in April.

Nexstar National Talent Competition - Results
The Performance Team traveled to the KCI Expo Center in North Kansas City to compete in the Nexstar National Talent Competition held April 4th through 6th. The team came home with many medals, ribbons, trophies and even a couple of “Judges’ Choice” awards. Soloist Mikaela M. received a “Disco Diva” award and a jazz group number to “L.O.V.E.” received an “Elegant Ladies” award from the judges. Group numbers in musical theatre and ballet received Gold medals and 1st place trophies. Other group numbers in jazz, open, and tap each received Gold medal honors. A duet to “Teach Me How To Shimmy” by Amy D. and Mikaela M. received a Gold medal. Another duet performed by Brodie G. and Alyssa S. to “Don Juan” received a High Silver medal. Riley B., Casey C. and Laurel D. performed a trio to “Ready For A Miracle” and received a Gold medal. Our soloists scored as follows: Jessy C. received a High Gold medal for her jazz number to “About That Walk”. Performing a hip hop number, Allison P. received a Gold medal and the honor of being named Junior Miss Nexstar 2nd runner-up. Tanna P. competed in the New Star category receiving a Gold medal and 10th place overall for her tap number to “Swing Batter Swing”. In the adult division, Tracy C. competed a lyrical routine and received a Gold medal and 4th place overall. Other soloists receiving Gold medals: Cassi C., Sandra H. (2 medals), and Casey C. (2 medals). Soloists receiving High Silver medals: Laurel D., Riley B., Brodie G., Alyssa S., and Mikaela M. The Performance Team will be competing again April 19th & 20th in St. Louis.

International Dance Challenge - Results
The By Grace Performance Team competed in the International Dance Challenge at the Scottish Rite Cathedral in St. Louis April 19th and 20th. The competitors came home with many plaques, ribbons and awards. A musical theatre performance to “Fabulous” received a Gold Champion Award and qualified for the Junior Entertainment Challenge which allowed the group to perform again prior to the awards ceremony. Students performed a jazz dance to “L.O.V.E.” which also received a Gold Champion Award and a special “Class Act” award. Another jazz dance to “Whole Lot of Shakin’” was given a Sterling Silver Champion Award and a “Movin’ & Grovin’” special award from the judges. In the “open” category, six students performed tap, jazz, and ballet and received a Gold Champion Award. Other group numbers in ballet and tap received Sterling Silver Champion Awards. A duet performed by Amy D. and Mikaela M. received a Gold Champion Award. Another duet performed by Brodie G. and Alyssa S. and a trio performed by Riley B., Casey C. and Laurel D. each received Sterling Silver Champion Awards. Riley B. and Jessy C. each received High Gold Champion Awards for their solos as well as being named Miss IDC Semi-Finalists and an opportunity to compete for the title of Miss IDC at national competition in Boston, MA or Orlando, FL. Sandra H. received two Gold Champion Awards for her solos and Allison P. received a Gold Champion Award and both were also named Miss IDC Semi-Finalists with the opportunity to compete for the title at nationals. Other soloists awarded Sterling Silver Champion Awards are: Laurel D., Tanna P., Cassi C., Alyssa S., Casey C. (2 awards), Brodie G., and Tracy C. Mikaela M. received a Silver Champion Award for her solo. The team will next compete in July at the Branson Convention Center in the Starpower National Talent Competition Championships.

For the final competition of the season, the By Grace Performance Team competed in the Starpower National Talent Competition Championships at the Branson Convention Center July 15th through 19th. The team qualified to attend the championships earlier in the year at the Starpower Regional Competition in Overland Park, Kansas. The team performed very well and received recognition as follows: Our soloists receiving Elite Gold Medals: Riley B., Cassi C. (Future Stars Division), Jessy C., Laurel D., and Allison P. Those receiving Gold Medals: Tracy C. (Adult Division), Casey C. (2 medals), Brodie G., Sandra H. (2 medals), Mikaela M., and Alyssa S. A duet performed by Brodie G. and Alyssa S., a duet by Mikaela M. and Amy D., and a trio performed by Riley B., Casey C. and Laurel D., each received Gold Medals. Our group routines in ballet, tap, and musical theatre all received Elite Gold Medals. Our two jazz groups each received Gold Medals. A performance in the “open category” featuring tap, jazz and ballet, also received a Gold Medal. The team also received some special awards. Our ballet group received the “Elegant Presence Award”, the duet to Don Juan performed by Brodie G. and Alyssa S. received the “Latin Ladies Award”, and soloist Tracy C. received a trophy for her top score in the adult division. Our musical theatre routine to “Fabulous” was one of fifty routines selected to compete the final day of competition in the Battle of the Stars. This portion of the competition was broadcast live on the internet and viewers were allowed to vote for their favorite number. The team had many supporters back home watching their performance and voting for them online. The team and instructors have worked very hard to make this season a success through hard work, dedication, and determination. The team is directed by Miss Vanessa Johnson of Clinton and Miss Eva Carpenter of Warrensburg.
